San Diego police Friday released two composite sketches of a man who accosted a real estate agent, took her cellphone along with jewelry from the La Jolla home she was showing and then shot at the homeowner as he fled.
A real estate agent had shown the Hillside Drive home to a potential buyer about 6:15 p.m. Aug. 1 when the gun-wielding man entered the unlocked front door, asked if the home had a safe and demanded jewelry, according to San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown. He forced the agent to open drawers in the master bedroom and stole jewelry, Brown said. He then took the her cellphone and told her to stay in the room, Brown said. The homeowner encountered the fleeing man, who was carrying his wife's fur coats, in the driveway and yelled at him. The robber dropped the furs and fired his gun twice at the man's feet, which caused concrete shrapnel to strike his face, Brown said. The suspected robber then drove off with the jewelry and phone in a small black two-door vehicle headed west, Brown said.Police described the robber as a white man in his 40s with short, wavy dark blond hair. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 165 pounds with a thin to medium build. He was clean shaven, wore dark clothing, carried a black backpack and was armed with a gun.Anyone with information was asked to call the San Diego Police Department's Robbery Unit at (619) 531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
