VISTA, Calif. - Authorities released the name Monday of a man who died over the weekend from gunshot wounds he suffered during a possible armed robbery in Vista.
Allen Francois, 32, was shot by an unidentified assailant at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of University Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to sheriff's officials and the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The Vista resident was declared brain-dead and taken off life support at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido on Saturday, homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.
Shortly before the fatal shooting, a robbery was reported at a nearby residence, leading investigators to believe the victim may have been gunned down by the thief.
