SAN DIEGO - A man who was shot after pointing a loaded shotgun at the owner of a Talmadge motorcycle shop during a break-in was sentenced Thursday to four years and four months in state prison.

Christopher Lamont Peterson, 37, pleaded guilty in September to theft of a firearm and burglary. As cameras rolled during his sentencing, Peterson covered his face by pulling up his jail-issued shirt.

Authorities said Peterson was confronted by Isaac Heinrich, co-owner of Trophy Motorcycles, about 2:20 a.m on March 15 as Peterson tried to leave the motorcycle shop.

Prosecutors said Heinrich had his .40-caliber handgun with him and ordered Peterson to stop, but Peterson -- armed with a loaded shotgun that Heinrich kept in the store -- pointed the shotgun at Heinrich.

Heinrich shot at the suspect three to four times but missed, and Peterson continued to advance toward him. The store owner then shot Peterson three times in the leg, according to authorities.

Besides the shotgun, Peterson had a computer and a camera from the store when he was shot, prosecutors said.
