Jim Grant told 10News he was walking on the boardwalk in Ocean Beach Tuesday when he said an unleashed pit bull ran up to him and bit him in the forearm.

Grant said he was able to fight off the dog by kneeing it in the chest a couple of times.

He told 10News the dog's owner was standing nearby and witnessed the incident, but did not try to help.

"He took off. The minute he saw I was making a phone call, he didn't want any part of that. He grabbed his dog, put the dog in his vehicle and sped out of the parking lot," Grant said.

Grant said his biggest concern was rabies.

However, lifeguards who treated him right after the attack told Grant his wound was not severe enough to have been infected.
