SAN DIEGO - A man is recovering Wednesday after a being rescued from waters off of the Ocean Beach pier.
The incident took place at 1:45 a.m.
The victim's brother told lifeguards that he and his brother were on the pier, when the brother decided to jump into the water. Both had been drinking, according to reports.
A small lifeguard craft attempted to rescue the victim, but he was too heavy to pull over the side of the boat. Additional lifeguards were called in to assist in the rescue. 10News learned it took about 20 minutes for backup to arrive, due to staffing issues, according to a lifeguard official.
The victim was taken to UCSD Medical Center.
