Man performing 'wheelie' on motorcycle dies after losing control in an Oceanside parking lot

Man thrown from motorcyle, lands on creek bed

OCEANSIDE - A man performing a "wheelie" in the parking lot of an Oceanside apartment complex lost control of his motorcycle, crashed and suffered fatal injuries, police said Tuesday.

The crash at the Creekwood Villas apartment complex at 3020 Oceanside Blvd. was reported at 7:39 p.m. Monday, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Kenneth Gow. No other vehicles were involved.

Witnesses told investigators that the man was riding on only the rear tire of his motorcycle and had the front tire raised off the ground when he lost control, Gow said in a statement.

As he crashed, the man was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in a creek bed south of the parking lot, he said.

"The motorcyclist was transported from the scene," Gow said. "However, his injuries proved fatal,"

His name was withheld pending family notification.
