SAN DIEGO - A San Diego man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of robbing a bank branch inside a supermarket in Pacific Beach on New Year's Eve.

James Arthur McWatters, 36, was arrested late Tuesday evening in connection with the crime at the Ralphs grocery store in the 4300 block of Mission Boulevard, according to the FBI.

McWatters allegedly handed a demand note to a teller at the Wells Fargo banking desk shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was being held in county jail without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
