Man killed in hit-run near El Cajon, suspect vehicle tracked down

EL CAJON - A pedestrian was killed by a vehicle early Monday morning in an unincorporated area outside El Cajon, California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.

The accident was reported at 12:39 a.m. at Willow Glen Drive and Dehesa Road, according to a CHP statement. The person who told authorities about the accident reported seeing a vehicle with several people inside striking the man at the Sycuan Casino.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the San Diego County coroner was contacted.

According to CHP, the witness spotted the license plate on the vehicle as it left the scene and called 911. Sometime before 3:30 a.m., investigators tracked down the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, to a residence on Weever Street in Emerald Hills. The SUV had front end damage.

CHP reports that the family told officers they knew they had hit something, but did not know it was a person. Drugs and alcohol were not believed to have been a factor.

The victim was believed to be in his 50s or 60s. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.
