Man gets life sentence in National City carjacking, shooting

CHULA VISTA - A man who shot another man six times in the back while trying to steal his car in National City and days later shot at two people during an attempted carjacking in Imperial Beach was sentenced today to 65 years to life in prison plus 63 years and eight months.
Treviyon Rew, 21, was convicted at trial of three counts of attempted murder, carjacking, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incidents on July 22, 2010, and July 24, 2010.
Rew was arrested following the National City carjacking/shooting, but bailed out of custody.
The Imperial Beach incident had been unsolved, but ballistics testing matched a bullet lodged in the shoe of one of the victims to a gun that Rew was carrying when he initially was arrested.
Rew was re-arrested on May 4, 2011, after a 90-minute standoff with officers outside his grandfather's home in Mountain View.
