A passer-by found a dead man Thursday inside a car that apparently had crashed off a rural East County road at some earlier time.

The discovery near the intersection of Olde Highway 80 and Lake Jennings Park Road in Flinn Springs was reported shortly after 4 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The vehicle appeared to have smashed into an oak tree before coming to rest in a stand of bamboo and other vegetation, largely concealed from view, CHP public affairs Officer Brian Pennings said.The body, apparently that of a young man, was in the driver's seat of the damaged white 1999 Acura sedan, Pennings said. The dead man's identity was not immediately known.The case was being investigated a traffic accident, the officer said, adding that it was unclear when the crash happened.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
