Man who died after pickup truck hit 2 parked cars, telephone pole in Grantville identified

SAN DIEGO - An 80-year-old man who died after crashing his pickup truck in Grantville has been identified.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified him Sunday as Albert Najera.

Najera was driving a 1999 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on Twain Avenue near Mission Gorge Road at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into two parked cars and a telephone pole.

He may have had some kind of medical issue that caused the crash, which killed him and caused serious damage to his car and the pole, police said.

Officers are also looking into whether alcohol was a factor. Police say the man was leaving the Stadium Club, a local bar, minutes before the crash.

Bar customers 10News spoke with say the man came in regularly but was not a heavy drinker. No other injuries were reported.

The San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the crash.

More details will be posted as they become available.
