SAN DIEGO - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews spent several hours trying to untangle a black PT Cruiser that became wedged underneath a semi truck at about 8 30 Sunday evening. The crash happened along the northbound 163, just south of Genesee, in the Linda Vista area. The sole occupant of the PT Cruiser died at the scene.
Crews use heavy machinery and tools to try to get the car out from underneath.
Initial reports indicate that the fully-loaded semi truck was heading up the hill along northbound 163 at a slow rate of speed with his flashers on when the driver of the PT Cruiser hit the semi. The semi then dragged the PT Cruiser about 100 feet before stopping.
Battalion Chief Ben Castro of San Diego Fire-Rescue explained that it took a long time to get the yet-to-be-identified driver out of the car. He told 10News, they had to remove both doors and the roof of the car to get the man out.
Fire fighters do confirm, however, the man who died at the scene was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. When we asked if alcohol played a role in the crash, we we’re told it’s too early to tell.
