A 62-year-old man died in a hospital Tuesday of injuries he suffered when an SUV struck him as he jaywalked near Westfield Parkway mall in El Cajon.

The pedestrian, dressed in dark clothing and carrying bags and suitcases, was crossing the 500 block of Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon when a Nissan Armada hit him about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to police.A sign posted nearby warns against crossing the thoroughfare on foot in the area, Lt. Frank La Haye said.Medics took the man to a trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning. His name was withheld pending family notification.The driver of the SUV immediately pulled over following the accident was cooperating with traffic investigators, La Haye said. Neither speeding nor intoxication appeared to be a factor in the fatality, the lieutenant said.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
