Man bitten by pit bull in Mira Mesa

Dog to be quarantined

MIRA MESA, Calif. - A man trying to help a young boy control his pit bull was bitten by the dog, police said Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported just before 2 p.m. in the 10000 block of Pegasus Avenue in Mira Mesa, according to San Diego police.

Police said a boy was walking the pit bull when it somehow got loose. A 66-year-old man offered to help the boy corral the dog by offering a rope, but the dog bit the man on the hand and thigh, police said.

The man was bleeding uncontrollably, and medical crews believed an artery might have been struck. The injured man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Animal Control officials told 10News the dog will be quarantined for 10-11 days.
