A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of smashing his girlfriend's 4-month-old puppy against the side of a recreational vehicle in Ocean Beach and slapping the woman, police said Saturday.

Witnesses to the attack, which occurred at about 6:40 p.m. Friday at or near Voltaire Street and West Point Loma Boulevard, tackled and held down the man until police arrived, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.Police identified him as Aubry Glascock. Glascock, who is also suspected of slapping his girlfriend, was arrested on suspicion of felony spousal abuse and cruelty to animals, Stafford said.The puppy died at the scene, Stafford said.According to jail records, Glascock is being held at the George Bailey Detention Facility.
