A man was in custody Friday on suspicion of grabbing a younger women by her throat and raping her in a Talmadge alley, police said.

The man, who is in his early 40s, approached the woman, who is in her late 20s, in the alley in the 4500 block of Altadena Avenue about 9:50 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.He demanded sex and she refused, then he grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her, Stafford said in a statement.At the same time, police received a call about a man beating a woman in the area and a patrol officer drove into the alley. According to Stafford, the patrol officer saw the man holding onto the woman and took him into custody.He was booked into county jail on suspicion of rape, Stafford said.
