SAN DIEGO - Officers on Saturday arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol when he ran a red light and crashed his moped into the side of a sport utility vehicle in University City.

The moped rider, who suffered some facial fractures, was transported to an area trauma center with non-life threatening injuries, San Diego police officer David Stafford said. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The moped rider was heading southbound on Cargill Avenue at Nobel Drive when he crashed into the SUV at 2 a.m., Stafford said.
