Woman found dead in parking lot of Carlsbad business park: Estranged husband arrested

CARLSBAD, Calif. - A woman who was found dead in the parking lot of a business park in Carlsbad has been identified by her family and her estranged husband has been arrested in connection with her death.

A neighbor told 10News the woman -- identified by her brother as Flor Gonzalez -- and her husband, Pedro Zurita, had been separated.

Someone called police shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday to check on a woman who had been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific in the 5700 block of Van Allen Way near Faraday Avenue, according to the Carlsbad Police Department. Gonzalez worked as a janitor inside the building.

Arriving officers found the woman's body in the parking lot of a business park and determined she had been the victim of a homicide, police officials said.

Zurita, 49, was arrested after authorities followed investigative leads and was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of first degree murder, according to police and jail records.
