Man accused of groping teen on bus in National City arrested

Dajamah Adonay Blevins taken into custody Tuesday

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - A 27-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of molesting a teenage girl last week as they rode a bus through National City, authorities said.

Dajamah Adonay Blevins of San Diego was taken into custody at Fifth Avenue and C Street downtown Tuesday afternoon after a Metropolitan Transit System security officer recognized him as matching the description of the perpetrator of the sex assault.

It happened about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, National City police Sgt. Alex Hernandez said. The 17-year-old victim told investigators the perpetrator boarded the MTS vehicle at bus stop on 24th Street, then sat next to her and groped her.

When the teen tried to move away, he blocked her way and continued assaulting her, asking her age while he did so and telling her he was 24 years old, Hernandez said.

When the bus stopped at 30th Street and Highland Avenue, the victim reported the crime to the driver, who chased the assailant off the bus.

A security camera captured images of the man, and police distributed them via San Diego County Crime Stoppers fliers.

Blevins was booked into county jail on suspicion of sexual battery, Hernandez said.
