Man accused of murdering Marine wife pleads not guilty

A man accused of killing a Marine's pregnant wife pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon in Joshua Tree Superior Court.

Christopher Brandon Lee, 24, was arrested in Alaska in connection with the disappearance and death of 19-year-old Erin Corwin.

Lee is charged with first-degree murder with a special allegation of lying in wait. 10News learned he is being held without bail and

Corwin's body was found Aug. 16 in an abandoned mine shaft in the Mojave Desert. Lee was arrested the following day in a traffic stop in Anchorage. He later waived extradition.

Court documents show Lee, a former Marine who is married, was Corwin's lover. She disappeared June 28 after leaving her Twentynine Palms home on her way to Joshua Tree National Park. Corwin had planned to meet Lee for a hunting trip. Marine Cpl. Jonathan Corwin reported his wife missing the next day.

Cpl. Corwin and other family members and friends of the victim were in court for Lee's arraignment.

An affidavit says the investigation focused on Lee. It also says the unborn child may have been his.

Authorities say bullet casings and rebar found near Corwin link Lee to the killing.
