A 76-year-old man is in custody Friday on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run accident in which a pedestrian was seriously injured in Mount Hope, police said.

The 56-year-old woman was struck by a car while walking across Market Street at 42 Street shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

The car's driver ran a red light when the accident occurred, Stafford said, adding that he sped off but was later found and arrested in Santee. His name was not immediately released.

The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries to her face and a leg, Stafford said.
