Main break causes geyser on Bay Park street

SAN DIEGO - A broken water main in a Bay Park neighborhood left several residents without water service Wednesday evening.

According to city water officials, a 12-inch diameter concrete water main broke at about 5 p.m. in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue.

Crews responded and were able to shut off water just after 6 p.m.

As of 7 p.m., at least 10 homes were without water service.

Water officials hope to have water restored to affected customers by 5 a.m. Thursday.

The incident is under investigation, but officials believe the break may have been caused by pipe corrosion.
