The training, which will involve detonating 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 explosives, is scheduled to run from 6 a.m. to midnight through Friday. The explosives will be used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions, according to the base public affairs office.

The mine clearing line charge exercises will be conducted in the Whiskey and Zulu training areas near the center of the base, as will mortar live fire training scheduled for Wednesday through Friday afternoons, said Robert Klenk of Range Operations.

Blasts from the exercises may be heard in Fallbrook, Oceanside and San Clemente, Klenk said.
