Los Angeles police find potential explosive devices in an apartment complex following traffic stop

Four buildings evacuated, several blocks sealed

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles police have arrested a man after discovering explosive material in his car and potential explosive devices in his apartment.

Sgt. Rudy Lopez says the bomb squad responded Wednesday to an apartment complex in the Palms neighborhood on the city's Westside.

Four buildings have been evacuated and several blocks have been sealed off.

Lopez says a routine traffic stop Tuesday night led to the findings after officers discovered a clear liquid containing explosive contents in the vehicle. They also found a gun and narcotics.

That discovery led to Wednesday's search of the man's apartment, where the potentially explosive devices were found. Police are withholding the man's name until the investigation has concluded.

During the evacuation, residents have been directed to a nearby shelter being managed by the Red Cross.
