Lockdown at John Muir: Police say the guns were fake and the guy was on cocaine

SAN DIEGO - Police say a man who students believed was brandishing a gun was under the influence of cocaine and had three paintball guns and two replica handguns in his home.

Thursday afternoon, several students reported seeing a gun-brandishing man at a home near John Muir School in the 4400 block of Mount Herbert Avenue.

Campus administrators secured students in their classrooms while officers surrounded a home in the 4600 block of Mount Laudo Drive, just south of the school.

A short time later an unidentified 29-year-old man complied with officers' orders to exit the residence and was detained, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said. The man's name was not immediately available.

Students were released to their families after the lockdown was lifted at about 4:15 p.m.
