San Diego man arrested in 6 armed robberies in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD - A San Diego man was arrested Thursday in connection with six armed robberies at Bakersfield businesses that occurred over a a period of four days.

Evidence recovered at the scene of one of the robberies this week led to the identification of the suspect, 30-year-old Richard Hernandez, Bakersfield Police Sgt. Joe Grubbs said in a news release.

While attempting to locate Hernandez, he allegedly committed a sixth armed robbery at a Carl’s Jr restaurant just before 5 p.m. Thursday, Grubbs said.

A short time later he was seen fleeing into a local hotel. Hernandez was apprehended without incident when he tried to leave the hotel on foot, police said. Hernandez was found to be in possession of money from the sixth robbery, as well as a replica firearm used during the offense.

He was interviewed by detectives and booked into the Kern County Jail on six counts of armed robbery.
