1 dead in SR-76 collision

Crash involved semi truck, sedan in Bonsall area

SAN DIEGO - A young woman was killed Friday after the car she was driving collided head-on with a big rig truck on state Route 76 in the Bonsall area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, just before 12:20 p.m., the 19-year-old woman was traveling on eastbound SR-76 just east of Gird Road when she apparently lost control of her 2008 Honda Civic, entered the westbound lane and collided with the big rig.

The CHP said the impact of the collision caused the Honda Civic to be "cut into two pieces."

The unidentified woman from Oceanside died at the scene, according to the CHP. The truck's driver -- a 38-year-old man from Vista -- was not injured.

The crash, which caused the closure of both sides of SR-76, remains under investigation, the CHP said.
