SAN DIEGO - The holder of a Daily Derby ticket worth more than a half-million dollars bought in the Skyline neighborhood was identified by the state lottery Friday as Gerald Ashby.
Ashby, who told lottery officials that he was a horse racing fan, bought the $558,066 winner last week at a service station at 6839 Imperial Ave.
The correct horses were 07-Eureka to win, 08 Gorgeous George to place and 06 Whirl Win to show. The winning time was 1:48.46.
Players in the game choose three horses out of a field of 12, predict their final order and a winning time. The draw is held every day at 6:35 p.m.
According to the lottery, Ashby plans to use the money to help out his family and purchase a new car.
