NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - Hundreds of children lined up Tuesday to receive new bikes and toys in National City.
Seeing the faces of children as they picked out their new bikes or open up their new toy is the reason why Frank King started this annual event.
Those who knew him said King wanted to make sure every child had a Merry Christmas.
Fifty years ago Frank and his wife Charlene began repairing toys and fixing up bicycles to give to needy children in the neighborhood on Christmas Day.
Decades later, the event is an ongoing tradition even though King died in 2008.
This year, the group gave away more than 200 bicycles and a truckload of toys.
