Lawsuit: Nepotism got Christopher Hays a job with the San Diego Police Department

SAN DIEGO - A new lawsuit claims former San Diego police officer Christopher Hays was hired by the department because a relative called in favors.

Hays' father-in-law is now an assistant chief with the San Diego Police Department.

The lawsuit, which asks for unspecified damages, is against both the city and Hays. It was filed this week by three women who claim Hays assaulted them while he was on duty.

Hays has already pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges and resigned from the force to fight those charges.
