Lakeside Murder Suspect Arrested

A 46-year-old man has been charged with one count of murder in connection with a shooting death in Lakeside over the weekend.

Kevin Royle is accused of shooting to death 47-year-old James Michael Parker in the 12600 block of Highway 67, according to San Diego County sheriff's homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos.

Parker was laying in a driveway when emergency crews arrived Friday morning, Brugos said. He died before he could be transported to a hospital.

Sheriff's officials soon came to suspect Royle but -- other than to call him one of Parker's acquaintances -- have not said what his connection is to the victim.

While hitchhiking, Royle was spotted around 3:20 p.m. Sunday by an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent who recognized him as a wanted suspect. The agent called sheriff's officials and followed Royle for about five minutes until deputies arrived and arrested him.
