LAKESIDE - A suspected hit-and-run driver suffered several injuries while trying to flee the scene of a crash early Monday morning in Lakeside.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), 40-year-old Michelle Taylor crashed her 2014 Honda Accord into a parked Dodge SUV in the 9200 block of Los Coches Road sometime before 1:30 a.m. Witnesses told police the driver jumped out of the SUV and ran. Meanwhile, several witnesses – including the Dodge’s owner – gave chase.
The suspect allegedly fell 15 to 20 feet into a drainage canal while trying to jump a fence. Eventually, CHP officers found her as she was losing consciousness. Paramedics had to drive the ambulance into the canal to reach the woman.
She was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa with several broken bones and a head injury.
She was released from the hospital later Monday morning and booked on one count each of driving under the influence of intoxicants and hit-and-run.
