LAKESIDE, Calif. - Authorities in Lakeside said Wildcat Canyon Road between Willow Road and Muth Valley was still shut down Monday after a a driver crashed into a pole the night before, knocking down power lines and causing an outage in some areas.
According to officials with Heartland Fire & Rescue, the wreck occurred at 1:53 a.m. Sunday in the 11000 block of Wildcat Canyon Road.
Crews said a van lost control and hit the power pole, and that two other vehicles became tangled in the downed lines that were blocking the roadway.
The live wires burned a hole on top of the van's roof.
Firefighters said one person was taken to an area hospital.
San Diego Gas & Electric officials said the downed lines had left about 200 people without power as crews worked to repair the lines. However, power has been restored to the area.
The California Highway Patrol said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.
