Lab worker being treated for chemical burn

SAN DIEGO - A lab worker at the Scripps Research Institute was being treated for a chemical burn after a test tube apparently broke.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Sunday at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences building in the 10000 block of North Torrey Pines Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The department's hazmat crew also responded to the scene.

The lab worker and was taken to Scripps La Jolla to be treated for minor injuries due to the burn. 10News learned the worker was using substances – one hot and one cold – when a test tube broke.
