SAN DIEGO - Two suspects in a stolen vehicle who were apprehended following a high-speech chase during which a pursuing officer on a motorcycle was injured Sunday were in custody Monday.
At about 6:33 p.m., La Mesa Police motorcycle officer Tim Purdy reported a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Jackson and Center drives in La Mesa, according to La Mesa Police Lt. Matt Nicholass.
"Purdy attempted to stop the reported stolen blue 2013 Nissan Rogue," Nicholass said. "The driver failed to stop and fled northbound on Jackson Drive at speeds exceeding 60 mph."
Nicholass said Purdy lost control of his motorcycle in the 5700 block of Jackson Drive during the pursuit and crashed into the curb front of Jackson Park.
Minutes later, a resident in the 5700 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard called police to report that two subjects had just parked and ran from a blue Nissan Rogue, according to Nicholass.
Officers from La Mesa and San Diego Police, as well as the Sheriff's Department, joined in the search for the outstanding suspects, Nicholass said.
"One suspect, Michael Seymour, Jr., 33, was located near the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Connecticut Avenue and was arrested and booked on charges of possession of narcotics and placed on a parole hold," Nicholass said.
According to Nicholass, the second suspect was eventually taken into custody at 12:37 a.m. by La Mesa Police responding to a report of a suspicious person in the area of 5500 Jackson Drive.
"The second suspect was taken into custody without incident and was booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless evading and a felony warrant," Nicholass said.
The second suspect was identified as James Francis Rachels, 27, a transient from El Cajon.
Motorcycle officer Purdy was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor concussion and a sore neck and released, Nicholass said.
