SAN DIEGO - Crews worked Tuesday to fix two separate water main breaks reported in the East County.
The first one was reported in La Mesa at 1 a.m. after residents heard rushing water in the 8500 block of Butte Street near Fresno Avenue.
Crews from the Helix Water District were called to the scene. They located a break on a 6-inch cast iron pipe. Workers shut off water in the area as they tried to repair the break. At least 44 customers, mostly residences, were affected.
The intersection of Fresno Avenue and Butte Street was shut down due to the repair effort.
Water was restored shortly after 3:30 p.m. and all affected roads were re-opened.
10News learned that another water main break was reported as of 6:39 a.m. The latest break resulted in a 15 feet by 30 feet sink hole and is located near the intersection of Ridge Hill Rd. at Lake Jennings Park Road in El Cajon.
Padre Dam Municipal Water District crews responded to the El Cajon break.
