DEL MAR, Calif. - Dressed in pink shirts and some in pink costumes, crowds of men and women took to the streets on Friday and kicked off this year's Susan G. Komen 3-Day to raise funds for breast cancer research.
They left the Del Mar Fairgrounds and are on their way to Petco Park. The distance is a total of 60 miles and they have three days to do it.
Hundreds of teams wore their logo proudly. One of the largest teams is called "Powered by Optimism." They have 60 walkers.
Team spokeswoman Bonnie says they are walking to find a cure and offer support to those fighting breast cancer.
Organizers say out of the 2,500 people walking this year, more than 300 of them are breast cancer survivors. The rest are supporters.
It is also a big fundraiser. Each person had to raise at least $2,300 dollars to participate.
