The scared little bundle of fur was reported about 4 a.m. and could be heard meowing from several feet down an old electrical plastic pipe at the southeast corner of Washington and Avocado avenues, according to Monica Zech, spokeswoman for the El Cajon Police Department.

Personnel from Emergency Animal Rescue led the effort, along with Heartland Fire and Rescue and the El Cajon Police Department, pulled the kitten out at about 11:45 a.m. and it appeared to be "safe and sound", Zech said.

"One of our firefighters pulled the cat out with a makeshift catchpole," said El Cajon police Captain Jim Redman.
