EL CAJON - Jury selection was scheduled to begin Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of gunning down his ex-wife in their Lakeside home and then trying to commit suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide.
Timothy Ralph Danielson, 66, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 13, 2011, death of 48-year-old Ming Qi.
The victim was shot six times after she argued with Danielson about a man she had been dating, the prosecution alleged.
The couple was married from 2006 to 2008 but lived together after their divorce for financial reasons, maintaining separate bedrooms in their home on New Bedford Court, authorities said.
After the shooting, Danielson allegedly took Qi's body to his bedroom and used a generator to try to kill himself with carbon monoxide. The alleged suicide attempt was foiled by sheriff's deputies who were called to the couple's home by a relative who said she had received an email from Danielson saying he had just killed Qi and was about to kill himself.
If convicted, Danielson faces 50 years to life in prison.
