Judge Orders Hedge To Donovan Prison Site

A judge has ordered the release of sexually violent predator Matthew Hedge to a site near the R.J. Donovan State Prison in Otay Mesa.

Judge Michael Wellington ruled last October that Hedge should be released back into San Diego County under strict supervision following treatment at a state mental hospital.

According to 10News reporter Bob Lawrence, Wellington said Hedge will be sent to live in a trailer on the Donovan prison grounds on or before April 30.

Deputy District Attorney Phyllis Shess agreed with Wellington's recommendations, which included tighter supervision, Lawrence reported.

Several parties disagreed with the judge's ruling, including Rep. Bob Filner, County Supervisor Greg Cox and members of the San Ysidro School District, Lawrence reported.
