John Gardner Incarcerated Alongside Mass Murderer Manson

Gardner Transferred To Corcoran State Prison To Serve Life Term

Sex offender John Albert Gardner III -- the man who raped and killed two North County teens -- is incarcerated Friday alongside mass murderer Charles Manson.

Gardner was transferred to Corcoran State Prison, north of Bakersfield this month to serve life for murdering 14-year-old Amber Dubois of Escondido last year and 17-year-old Chelsea King of Poway last February.

Corcoran is the state's only facility with a Protective Housing Unit, according to jail officials. It can hold up to 47 prisoners but typically houses only 25 or so, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Gardner has his own cell but can mingle with other inmates in the protective unit, according to the newspaper. Those other inmates include Manson and Mikhail Markhasev, who was convicted of killing entertainer Bill Cosby's son.
