Jockey falls from horse at Del Mar races: Horse injured leg, expected to be euthanized

DEL MAR, Calif. - A jockey was taken to the hospital Saturday after falling from a horse at the Del Mar races.

The incident occurred in the fifth race, which took place on the grass. A witness tells 10News that the horse "Lil Swiss Echo" appeared to fracture a leg at the end of the race near the finish line.

The jockey, Drayden Van Dyke, fell off the horse and was then stepped on by two other horses. He was carried to an ambulance and was transported to a hospital. There is no word on any injuries or his condition. The witness said he was on the ground for a long time but appeared to be moving his legs.

Lil Swiss Echo was taken away in a horse ambulance and is expected to be put down.
