SAN DIEGO - Bob Filner is under criminal investigation by the state Attorney General's office, Team 10 confirmed Friday.
Sources close to the investigation told Team 10 the probe began roughly two weeks ago. The sources also said Filner's resignation will not change close examination of sexual harassment accusations.
Asked to confirm the criminal investigation, AG's office spokesman Nick Pacilio would only say, "The criminal investigation is underway, I cannot comment further."
Filner has not been charged, and has always said he did not sexually harass anyone. He made the statement of innocence again Friday during his resignation announcement.
Sources said state investigators have been working with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which set up a hotline last month for women to call and make complaints.
The sheriff's department will not reveal how many women have called the hotline.
The number is 619-481-0220.
Filner also is being examined by the Justice Department, as Team 10 first reported in July. Federal investigators are looking at Filner's dealings with a developer. There was no word Friday evening on how that investigation is going.
