SAN DIEGO - Sources told Team 10 that at least 10 "high-level" Democrats met Sunday to discuss the politics surrounding San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.
Sources who attended the meeting said several elected officials met with party leaders and high-dollar fundraisers, and Team 10 has obtained an email -- an invitation for last Sunday's meeting -- from one of those fundraisers.
The subject of the email reads "Draft Nathan Fletcher effort."
The email was sent to San Diego Democrats and Republicans, according to sources. It directly addresses the mayor's sexual harassment scandal.
"It is possible that he could decide to resign very soon and we would like to be prepared to immediately call for Nathan Fletcher to run for office," the email read.
"Timing will be everything if Bob Filner resigns," the email continued, "we would like to have a letter ready to send to Nathan that calls for him to immediately declare as a candidate."
"This would allow him to say that he has received a letter from a bi-partisan group ... To learn that Nathan Fletcher has your support might discourage others to run," the email read.
Sources said Fletcher did not attend the Sunday meeting and no money has been raised on his behalf.
Fletcher did not return Team 10's calls for comment.
