SAN DIEGO - UPDATE: Caltrans has canceled the closures due to the rainy forecast. They will be rescheduling the work for another time.
Sections of southbound and northbound Interstate 805 will be closed this week before the state opens new carpool lanes in March.
Caltrans said southbound Interstate 805 will close from the merge to south of Mira Mesa Boulevard/Vista Sorrento Parkway off-ramp from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
Motorists will be detoured to southbound I-5 or they can use the local Bypass at Carmel Valley Road and those using I-5 will be detoured to eastbound SR-52 to southbound I-805.
Motorists using the local bypass will return to southbound I-805 south of merge but will be forced to exit at the Mira Mesa Boulevard/Sorrento Valley Road off-ramp, and then back onto the freeway using the southbound I-805 Mira Mesa Boulevard/Sorrento Valley Road on-ramp.
Northbound I-805 will close from the Mira Mesa Boulevard/Vista Sorrento Parkway off-ramp to the merge from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. Motorists will be detoured at the off-ramp and directed straight through the intersection to Vista Sorrento Parkway north to Carmel Mountain Road to the northbound I-5 on-ramp.
The closure will allow Caltrans to prepare for the new carpool lanes set to open in early March.
