Elderly man dies after Bay Terraces house fire

SAN DIEGO - An elderly man who was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Bay Terraces has died.

The fire was reported just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 2800 block of Utica Drive, near Utica Place.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire at the home.

They found the 86-year-old man unconscious near the doorway and performed CPR on him. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he later passed away.

10News learned that the fire started on the first floor of the house and spread to the second floor.

It caused about $300,000 in damage to the property and about $100,000 in damage to the contents.

The cause is under investigation.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department was assisted by units from the National City, Bonita and Chula Vista fire departments.
