Homes flooded after car hits hydrant

SAN DIEGO - A car crashed into a fire hydrant in a Lemon Grove neighborhood Thursday, sending water about 50 feet into the air and flooding some nearby homes.
According to San Diego County sheriff's officials, the crash happened just after 6 p.m. at New Jersey Avenue.
Helix Water District crews were called in to turn the water off, shutting it down by 7:10 p.m.
Flooding was reported at five homes, but the extent of the damage was not immediately disclosed.
Sheriff's officials are investigating the crash as a hit-and-run.
