Authorities received a call around 8 p.m. Sunday, of a young female who had a knee injury, and was stranded about 1/4 mile up the trail to the mountain.

When rescue units arrived and hiked up the mountain, they discovered the victim screaming in agony from a dislocated knee.

The San Diego Fire Department helicopter was called in to assist, and it sent down a paramedic and a bag of morphine for the patient.

Crews first wanted to land her in a nearby open space to transfer her to an ambulance for the trek to the hospital, but because of her severe pain, they decided to rush her by air to Sharp Hospital.

Firefighters tell 10News the victim was with a small group coming down from the top of the mountain, when she somehow fell dislocating her knee.

The rescue took about half an hour.
