EL CAJON, Calif. - A preliminary hearing was scheduled to get underway Tuesday for an alleged drunk driver accused in the deaths of two people near Alpine last year.
A deadly series of crashes that culminated with the double fatality began shortly before 3 a.m. on June 11, 2012, when 25-year-old Angela August lost control of her vehicle for unknown reasons on Interstate 8, just west of Tavern Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators say 59 year old Jimmy Arevalo came to the aid of August, whose car flipped over on the side of the freeway.
According to the CHP, 31 year old Sunny Hall was driving east on Interstate 8 when she plowed into Arevalo and the overturned car.
Arevalo and August died in the crash.
Hall was booked gross vehicular manslaughter.
She faces 14 years in prison if she's convicted.
