EL CAJON, Calif. - A man accused in the shooting death of another man after an argument and physical altercation in Spring Valley must stand trial on a murder charge, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Arren William Dangler, 29, is accused in the June 15 death of Brian Keith Hammett, who was also 29. The victim's body was found at approximately 12:30 a.m. in a driveway the 8700 block of Troy Street.

El Cajon Judge Allan Preckel ruled after a preliminary hearing that enough evidence was presented for Dangler to stand trial for murder.

Dangler pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to robbery, auto theft and other charges stemming from a May 30 home-invasion robbery in which the victim was robbed of cash and a BMW by two men who answered a Craigslist ad for a computer.

Dangler is also charged -- along with 36-year-old Michael John Smith -- with assaulting a fellow inmate after their arrests. A preliminary hearing on that case will resume Dec. 19.

If convicted on the murder charges, Dangler faces at least 52 years to life in prison, said Deputy District Attorney Clay Biddle.
